Slots Freebies - Gaming Board Says Bring It On
Slot machines have been the number one topic of concern for the people of
Pennsylvania for the past eight weeks. The states gaming control board has
been on tour to hear the concerns of the people in nine different locations.
Over the course of the tour there were roughly six hundred people that came
to the hearings to express their opinions and wishes surrounding the states
incoming slot machines. Although many criticized elements of how the tour
was planned and conducted others felt the necessity out weighed the
inconvenience given the important decisions being made.
By the end of the year the board will need to have issued fourteen
separate slot machine licenses to areas throughout the state so the last
eighteen days have been particularly important as opponents felt that their
voices were being heard in a fair and judicial manner. "The hearings were
great for us," shares one of the members of one of the more vocal protest
groups dealing with the possible slot machine casino to be built near the
Gettysburg Field.
But the biggest discrepancies seem to no longer be dealing with the
locations of the slot machines but are now mostly issues with how the slot
machine distributors and manufactures will be handled and regulated. Yet
even with what some call unrealistic time constraints, the board remains
hopeful that the process will be a smooth and ultimately beneficial one. "I
think we have a big task, But in a lot of ways, we're very well staffed. ...
There's an organization that is starting to emerge. I feel that as an
organization, we are really starting to get our hands around it," says one
board member in the midst of meetings. |
